What do you mean by PDN Certified?
A PDN (Private Duty Nurse) is a Washington State certification that allows an adult family home to serve medically fragile adults from age 18 and up. These clients have needs that require nursing skills for several hours every day.
What is an Adult Family Home?
An Adult Family Home is usually home located in a residential neighborhood that has been retrofitted to provide for the needs and safety adults 18 years and up.
What is the difference between an Adult Family Home and Assisted Living?
An Adult Family Home provides more personalized care in a more home-like setting rather than having the feel of a large and impersonal facility.
How do I know which Adult Family Home will work best for my parent?
This will depend on your daily needs, your location, and your preferences.
How long does the enrollment into an adult family home take?
Days to weeks depending on the needs, payment method setup, and moving needs.
How does the service work?
The home takes over your care from your previous caregiver. Your care is provided per your needs according to the assessment.
What if my loved one needs long term care?
The accommodation is meant to be long-term unless there are changes in your health needs to where the home can’t meet your needs.
What Age is required to be hosted in the adult family home?
We accept ages from 18 and above.
Who takes care of the residents in an Adult Family Home?
Trained staff are available 24/7 per the needs of each client. We have RNs, LPNs, CNAs, HCAs as part of the staff in the facility. The primary provider is always in the home or is within reach via telephone.
What does a typical day in an Adult Family Home look like?
An AFH is operated just like a client’s home environment. The client continues to do the things he/she is able to do as space allows. It is advised to consider the other roommates in things such as loud noise and safety.
How often can I visit my parent in an Adult Family Home?
Visitation is always allowed. We request that you call the facility, so you don’t bounce in case the client left the home for an activity.
How can I tell which level of assistance they need?
Your doctor and or social worker/ case manager will help you determine the level of care/assistance you need. An assessment is performed which determines the care needs.
How much does an Adult Family Home cost?
Fees are charged according to the level of care required by each resident. According to the payment setup, you may be responsible for the whole amount (private pay) or have a monthly contribution if your care is paid for by the State.
Are the bathrooms handicap accessible?
All bathrooms are approved by Washington building code to be handicap accessible and have very strong support bars for their safety.
